Hi, i'm thinking about converting my 626 92model v6 auto from the normal stock engine to a RB20DET. The skyline engines are real cheap over here in australia and i can get the front wheel drive version for cheap around $2000.

Does anyone know how much 92 model 626 V6 2.5l engine is worth????

if u do please let me know

meny thanks :D :D :D

that engine picture there is the KL-ZE, which is the japanese spec engne...obviously what your planning to do is hypothetically possible, but very difficult and advanced..I mean, you really have to know what your doing here.

In 92, they didn't have the v6, that came in 93, so I have no idea how you could possibly have a 92 626 v6, that's BS.

Generally from reading your post, I don't think you really know what your doing here, but to answer your question, the KL-ZE can be bought for about 1400 USD with low milage; the KL-03, which you claim you have in your 92 (still thinking how it's possilbe) would probably go for around the same, probably a little less, like around 1000 USD if it has low milage.

..As well, I beleive the R34 and R33 skylines have the RB26DETT motor, the R32's have the RB25, I have never heard of an RB20DET, I think you might be talking about the SR20DET, which has a front wheel drive model, but most are rear wheel drive, these are for the 240sx's and silvia's.

The newer gen 626's came out in AU in '92. That's a fact, and NOT bs. And yes, they got the ZE. You can't just assume everyone here lives in the US....

If you want a skyline so bad, why don't you buy one. Truth is, any engine can be made to go fast. Whoopdie do.

He doesn't want a skyline, he wants a 626 with a skyline engine. What do you think people would say if he opened his hood and they saw that engine?

They'd say "dude, why didn't you just buy a skyline"

J/K. I guess it would be neat, but is that engine THAT much better than anything else on the market?

You've got enough room under the hood to fit 2 vtec engines lol. Why not do that? TWICE the RICE.

Today this kid down the street from me with an mx-3 4cyl is like "I want to stick a 2.5 V6 in it. It's got like this much empty space under the hood! (holds his hands like 4 feet apart).

Yeah I'm pretty sure we started getting the V6's here in Oz in 1992, however unfortunately we also got the KL-03's rather than the KL-ZE's

A place in Adelaide has the KL-ZE's for about $2K AUD plus freight, which would be an easier swap.

If you were going to go to the trouble of a swap of this kind I would go for AT LEAST an RB25. I had a drag in my last car, a 1.5L lancer with a skyline that I have to assume had an RB20 in it (smallest engine that came in that car), because it lost. Your 626 would weigh about the same as the Skyline. So you would be turning a car that can do 0-100 in about 7.8 sec into a car that will do it in about 12 sec. If it has a turbo on it you would probably start to get back to about the original performance again.

So seriously in the end, don't bother. If you like the Nissan engines so much get a Silvia, you can have an '88 imported for under $9K AUD (Prestige Motorsport). Then all the other add on bits will fit etc. Otherwise you will just be throwing around $3K AUD at your car for no benefit.

OK sorry I just re-read your post and saw that you said RB20DET that being the turbo. In any case you will be spending a whole lot on labour for something that will end up about the same.

Dimensionally the 2.5L is roughly the same as the 1.8L V6 (only differences being intake manifold, throttle body, etc). That swap has been done plenty of times.

Well, thanks for all the info i guess for all that it would be just easier to keep the engine i have now and add turbo, unless that costs more than an entire engine swap. And yeah 626 V6 came out in australia in 1992 January. But i know a plase in brisbane that does preatty cheap engine swaps so was just aking about that.

If my bloody car was Rear wheel drive i would have defeneatly put a 13b rotary in it.
rotaries are hell cheap over here, even cheaper in victoria.

-again thanks all for your input

If anybody has done the swap from Adelaide Jap Wrecking let me know how it went.

I have a 94 626 which has the KL03 variant motor. Adelaide Jap wrecking have quoted me ~$3200 Aus to pull the old and fit the new with ECU to suit

Hoping this will give me a bit more kick.
