I got a 1,8i litre engine with 105 lazy hp. What can I do to make this a faster car?

This is what the guy in my local tuningshop told me:

chip: + 12 % = 12,6 (117,6)
filter and new muffler: + max. 7% = 8,2 (125,8 hp)
This lools a litte bit little for me, is this the reality or is it possible to get some more effect from tis engine?

-_- -_-

do a engine swap. either a 2.0 turbo or a 2.2 turbo. you should be able to find 1 in a auto wrecker somewhere for cheap.

Defineately find you the 2.0L engines or do like mazdarati did turbo it? The engine you have is just slightly smaller but still based off the lines of it. Swap parts if need be. Find a salvage yard and go crazy! You can take the mid pipe from the V6 GT's and bolt it right up to your car. Hell, you can even use the mufflers as well. Take the Headers from the 2.0L and bolt it on up for free flow exhaust pleasure.I hear that they make an Adjustable timing gear for the intake and not for the exhaust, consider that. THere's supercharger kits and what's not available for the 626 should be widely available on the Probe and MX 6 cars. Good luck!

Thanks for some helpful tips. Maybe an engine swap would be the right thing. I don`t think there is 2,2 litres for mye Mazda. I belive it was the 626 -> 91/92 who had this engine.

But if I get a turbo for my 1,8 litre, and changes the nessesary parts in the engine (witch I by the way don`t have one idea how to do :P , but I could maybe get a friend of mine who works at the local Mazda dealer to help me), I`ve got to change (or modify) both brakes and transmission?

If I should swap the engine into...hmm, lets say a V6 2,5 l. This would cost extremely much?

FE DOHC - 2litre 16V EFI 1988 - 1994 i belive,

nothing wrong with a 1.8litre engine what so ever...look at the CA18 DET they produce alot of HP with money spent ;)

See if you cant get a turbo of one of those :)

as for swapping in a V6... it would be cheaper to buy a whole new 6 with a V6... so don't even consider it

The most they got out of that engine in stock form was 225HP, the others were 150 &180HP. As for the FE series engines, I don't think they would fit and if so, not to be rude or anything but why would you wanna downgrade to an older engine? That's like swapping a 350 Chevy engine with a Holley 4 barrel carburator in a 2003 Corvette Z06..... What was the reason for that? Anyways, I wouldn't go for a FE, but more on the lines of staying with the FS series and if you have the patience, you can find the wiring harness and VRIS control unit from the Japanese spec MS6 with the FS-ZE engine
